Lakshadweep islands are connected to 3 main land ports in India. They are Kochi, Beypore (Kozhikode) and Mangalore. Among the three ports, main port connecting all major ship services is Kochi Port.From these main lands it will take 14-20 hrs. to reach Lakshadweep depending on source and destination island inside Lakshadweep.

Why do non islanders (people living in main land) usually do not get tickets in normal passenger ships to Lakshadweep?
All non-islanders require an entry permit to travel to Lakshadweep. Once issues, passenger has to travel within 15 days. Also a non-islander can book the tickets in ships with entry permit only. All Lakshadweep passenger ships will announce its schedule to Lakshadweep only just before 15 days. So a non-islander get the chance of booking with entry permit only in last few days and by that time most of the passenger tickets would be sold out and chances of getting are very less.
It doesn’t mean that a non-islander can get the normal ship tickets. But it’s more difficult than islanders.
How can a non-islander travel in ship to island easily?
For non-islanders, Lakshadweep tourism department ( SPORTS) operates a 4 nights 5 days Ship package known as Samudram Package which can be booked easily through SPORTS or authorized agents. Entry permit is automatically issued by Lakshadweep administration for all SAMUDRAM Package tourists along with the ship tickets with all food.
Can a Non-islander travel by High speed vessel to Lakshadweep?
High speed vessel schedules are announced in a very short notice like within 2 or 3 days before departure. So if the passenger wishing to travel has got entry permit, then he can take a normal ticket in the vessel.
Transportation within Laksahdweep Islands.
Transportation with in islands are commonly done by High speed Catamarans (HSC) or high speed vessels and speed boats. For tourists especially who arrives at Agatti island by flight should not that these high speed vessels to Kavaratti and Kadmat are available ( to and fro) only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. So tourists should plan their journey and stay at these islands accordingly. Also there is daily service of speed boats from Agatti t Bangaram and Thinnakara
