Trivandrum being the capital city of Kerala has got many sightseeing options especially for students and family groups. Most of them have got specific entry timings and ticket charges. In this article we are trying to cover maximum details regarding the sightseeing and major Tourist spots in Trivandrum for groups and their entry ticket charges . Please note that most of the sightseeing locations are closed on Mondays. It includes Entry timings for Trivandrum Zoo, Art Gallery, Napier Museum etc.. The Entry Fees for Trivandrum Zoo, Planetarium, Magic planet etc.. are given in detailed manner. Many tourist spots like Planetarium, Zoo, Magic Planet , Veli etc.. give concession for large groups and students for entry tickets.
1: Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple:
Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple is located at East Fort in the heart of the city and this temple dedicated to lord Vishnu. Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple is a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian styles of architecture and is believed to be the world’s richest temple.
Please note that only Hindus are allowed to enter inside Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple
Dress code at Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple:
For entering Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple, devotees should follow a strict dress code prescribed by temple authorities and it is as follows:
Dress Code for Men entering Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple: Men should wear Mundu ( dhoti – cloth worn around the waist of men going down up to the heels) and SHOULD NOT wear any shirt.
Dress Code for Women entering Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple: Women should wear Sari/ Mundum Neriyathum (Set Mundu), skirt and blouse or half sari. Women should NOT wear any Pants (Churidar/ Jeans) Or T Shirts or similar kind of dress.
Dhotis are available for rent at the temple entrance. Nowadays temple authorities allow wearing of dhotis over pants or churidhar to avoid inconvenience to the devotees.

2: Kuthiramalika ( Horse Palace) :
Situated close to Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple, near East Fort Trivandrum. Kuthiramalika is also known as Horse palace. Every year Swathi Sangeetholsavam is being conducted here. This Palace was built by Travancore King Swathi Thirunal who himself was a great musician and it the museum along with palace displays different paintings collections of the royal family

3: Napier Museum:
Napier museum is situated in museum compound close to Trivandrum Zoo in heart of the city.
Named after former Madras Governor General John Napier, this museum houses rare collection of archeological findings, bronze idols, ivory carvings etc… revealing the rich culture of Kerala

Natural History Museum is also is situated in museum compound adjacent to Napier Museum.
It has got galleries like the skeletal, bird, animal and taxidermy along with a museum. Photography not permitted in the museum

5: Zoological Park:
Zoological Park in Trivandrum was opened in 1859 and is considered to be one of the first Zoo’s in India. The park houses rare species of reptiles and mammals. Like many national parks in Kerala, plastic is strictly banned inside the park.

6: Sree Chitra Art Gallery:
Sree Chitra Art gallery was opened by Maharaja of Travancore Sree chithira Thirunal in 1935. It is situated very close to Napier Museum and houses rare painting collections of Raja Ravi Verma, Nicholas Roerich and Svetlova and extra ordinary works of Mugal, Rajput and Tanjore Art.

7: Priyadarshini Planetarium (Kerala Science and Technology Museum) :
Established in 1994, it is the first hybrid Planetarium in India with tilted dome suitable for giving live astronomy classes and film shows. It can project starry night sky of any Earth location at any point of time using high opto mechanical projector. It’s a must see spot for School and college students group.

11: Padmanaphapuram ( Wooden Palace) :
This Palace was built in 16th Century by Iravi Varma Kuleshakara Perumal who ruled Venad during 1592-1609. Later the Kind Marthanada Varma dedicated kingdom to his family deity Sree Padmanabha and hence the name came as Padmanabhapuram. This woodenPalace is a fine specimen of ancient Kerala’s style of architecture. Even though presently it is situated in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, still the land and place belongs to Government of Kerala and this palace is maintained by Archaeological department- Government of Kerala.

14: Vizhinjam beach and Fishing Harbour
